Micro pollutants referring to drug compounds from human consumption and release into sanitary pipes also such compounds can originate from waste effluent of drug manufacturing companies. Treatment of waste treatment plant to safe reduced levels and subsequent treated water effluent release of plant into water bodies leads to a build up of such compounds in surface waters.

What effects have these micro-pollutants in the surface water?
Such pollutants accumulate in the bodies of marine creatures and cause genetic changes. Such as fish gender change or population reduction of vultures in the Himalayan regions.

Is there anything being done to address this?
1) The mass education of public to provide affirmative actions on the consumption of medical drugs. 2) With less emphasis on costs, the improvement in treatment processes at the medical companies ( sales and manufacturing) and waste water treatment plant.

Can I do anything to help? A concerned individual actions against a larger number of unconcerned person can not be of great help. But rather the concentrated efforts of persons has a whole may bring about lesser pollution. Passing of regulations, polices and laws serve as notification and legal services but here the effective is only served by active participation of persons.
